Learn how the Air India Training Academy is redefining aviation training and nurturing dreams of young aviation professionals

Nestled within a vast 600,000-square-foot campus in Gurugram, the Air India Training Academy stands tall and proud as South Asia's largest aviation training institution and a cornerstone of India's aviation ecosystem. With comprehensive training programmes and cutting-edge infrastructure that matches global standards, the academy is on a mission to foster industry-ready aviation professionals.

A unified training environment

“To fulfil our goals to become a world-class airline, we have invested in building a state-of-the-art integrated training academy in Gurgaon. It brings to life Air India’s ambition to establish best-in-class training to all aviation disciplines,” says Sunil Bhaskaran, Director, Aviation Academy, Air India. For cabin crew, the academy offers inclusive training on Safety and Emergency Procedures (SEP) along with service training, grooming, voice, and accent training. Training for ground and security staff covers aspects such as departure control, customer service, airport security. The academy also hosts management trainings, including commercial, HR and leadership trainings. Air India is also in the process of setting up centers for advanced training of pilots in two state-of-the-art simulator training units, in collaboration with OEMs, within the same campus as the Air India Training Academy. There will be over 20 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) Bays to support the airline’s existing and future Airbus and Boeing fleet and ensure crew readiness ahead of future aircraft deliveries

An immersive learning experience

The academy is envisioned to provide Air India professionals with immersive learning experiences with a focus on practical application. Door Training for instance prepares our crew for routine and emergency operational procedures. Advanced simulators and drill facilities ensure real-world exposure to emergency protocols equipping crew to respond seamlessly in such situations. A cabin crew trainee expresses, “It was amazing to be at the Air India Training Academy. The classrooms are spacious, providing an environment that is conducive to learning and comfort. The detailed curriculum along with the hands-on training helps us prepare well for all kinds of day-to-day challenges- big or small.”

Training today for a better tomorrow

India is one of the fastest-growing aviation markets globally and the academy will play a vital role in supporting this growth. The Air India Training Academy is expected to train more than 50,000 Air India professionals including pilots, cabin crew, ground handling, engineering, and security staff, over the next few years.

Moreover, Air India is building a Flying Training Organisation (FTO) in Amravati, Maharashtra with 31 single-engine aircraft and 3 twin-engine aircraft for training - the first for an Indian airline.

To further add to new learning prospects, Air India has planned an Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) school to ensure a steady pipeline of skilled engineers, vital for the maintenance and operation of modern aircraft we recently placed an order for.

All this will not only help meet Air India’s requirements in its journey of becoming a world-class airline but also strengthen the Indian aviation ecosystem by cultivating the next generation of aviation professionals
