Air India is at the mid-point of its five-year transformation journey. While there is still some distance to cover, here’s looking at some of the key milestones that have been achieved.
As Air India advances through its transformation journey, here is a sneak peek into how the airline has been progressively elevating your travel experience. In Part I of this series, we touch upon five key inflight facets - from onboard Wi-Fi to luxury amenity kits.
1. Onboard Wi-Fi at 35,000 feet
You can now stay in touch with your loved ones during your flight with Air India’s newly launched Wi-Fi service. This service is available on board its domestic and international flights operated by Airbus A350, Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner and select Airbus A321neo aircraft. And the Wi-Fi is being offered complimentary for an introductory period. This makes Air India the first Indian carrier to offer in-flight Wi-Fi internet connectivity on domestic flights, enabling you to enjoy browsing social media, catching up on work, or texting your friends and family. The service will be progressively rolled out on other aircraft over time.
2. Vista Stream – Air India’s wireless in-flight entertainment
With over 1800 hours of content, the 'Vista Stream' in-flight entertainment system boasts an extensive library of Bollywood and Hollywood movies, documentaries, TV Shows, music, and curated content for children. Enjoy access to Vista Stream onboard Air India’s widebody and narrowbody aircraft (excluding the newly inducted Boeing 777 and Airbus 350 aircraft) across international and domestic network on your personal electronic devices such as smart phones, tablets, and laptops. Compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, and macOS devices, Vista Stream ensures you remain entertained throughout the flight.
3. An upgraded experience on single-aisle aircraft
Today, you can enjoy the Premium Economy experience on more than eighty aircraft deployed on domestic and international routes. This entails a dedicated, upscale cabin with extra legroom, enhanced meals, priority services on ground, and more. Air India has also started refurbishing twenty-seven of its legacy A320 aircraft that will be completed by mid-2025. What this means for you is new cabins, seats, upholstery, carpets as well as the addition of Premium Economy cabins in these aircraft.
4. Bespoke amenity kits
In collaboration with luxury brands like Ferragamo and TUMI, Air India presents meticulously designed amenity kits as part of the new elevated experience. Onboard the First Class Cabin, you will receive an indulgent Ferragamo skincare kit with an Eau de Parfum (EDP), body lotion, hand cream, and a lip balm along with comfort essentials including socks, an eye mask, and a Maharaja charm. If you are booked in Business Class, you are presented with a similar Ferragamo selection sans the EDP leaving you refreshed throughout your journey. Premium Economy passengers are offered kits featuring items like lip balm by the Swedish brand Verso, socks, and an eye mask. For First and Business Cabin customers, Velour carpet slippers and custom-designed loungewear are additional touches to ensure enhanced ease and luxury. The amenity kit and loungewear are on routes above eight hours and on night flights above six hours, with Singapore as an exception.
5. The flagship A350 experience
Did you know Air India is the first Indian airline to operate the state-of-the-art Airbus A350? Featuring the latest suite-style Business Class cabin with full-flat beds, a brand-new Premium Economy experience and the latest generation seats in Economy, the A350 sets a new standard for passenger experience on Indian airlines. This is coupled with a wide array of onboard enhancements such as a refreshed in-flight menu featuring Indian and international flavours, amenity kits, an advanced inflight entertainment system with over 3800 hours of content on HD screens, and the airline’s new soft product – Vista Verve – with new chinaware, tableware, glassware and bedding. Air India now operates its flagship A350 aircraft between Delhi and London Heathrow, New York (JFK), and Newark (EWR).
